Visit of Mr. Roch Wamytan, President of New Caledonia Congress to Australia (19 -22 March 2012) [ fr ]

The purpose of his visit is in line with the growing political integration of New Caledonia in its regional environment, politically and economically.

(Canberra, March 22) Mr. Roch Wamytan, President of New Caledonia Congress, headed a delegation of 6 elected representatives of the Congress of all political boards, on his visit to Australia from the 19th to the 22nd of March 2012.

During his visit, President of the Congress, Mr. Wamytan met with:
- Mr. John Hogg, President of the Senate;
- Mr. Peter Slipper, House of Representatives Speaker (picture on the left);
- Mr. Richard Marles, State Secretary for the Pacific and Foreign Affairs;
- Mr. Bernie Ripoll, President of the France-Australia Friendship Group and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer ;
- Mrs. Amanda Rishworth and Mr. Patrick Secker MP, President and Deputy President of the Australia-Pacific Parliamentary Group;

The Australian authorities have reaffirmed their full support to New Caledonia’s wishes to be a full member of the Pacific Islands Forum.

The discussions President Wamytan held with the Australian authorities range from:
- The wish of New Caledonia to engage a cooperation with the Federal Parliament,
- The possibility of twinning the New Caledonia Congress with a State Parliament of Australia.
- The cooperation of Australian experts on trade and civil laws to help New Caledonia in these fields.
- The possibility for the Congress of New Caledonia to participate in some regional parliamentary forums.
- Developing the students exchange programs.
