FRANCE + 1 TRANSIT SCHENGEN the visa entitles you to transit once through a Schengen state to travel to France
FRANCE the visa entitles you only to enter the French territory
FRANCE SAUF CTOM the visa entitles you to enter France and the DROM territories but not the CTOM
DEPARTEMENT D’OUTRE MER (FRANCE) the visa entitles you only to enter the département(s) specified in the “Remarques” section below

Date from which you are allowed to enter the Schengen Area

"Au:" means "To:"

Date by which you must leave the Schengen Area

These two dates specify the period for which your visa may be used (and not the length of stay allowed)

Type de visa:

It is one of the three following types:

“A” airport transit visa (this visa does not allow you to leave the “international” or “duty free” zone of the airport)
“C” short-stay visa (stay of less than 90 days)
“D” long-stay visa (stay in France of more than 3 months)

It can be one of the following:

This is the number of days for which you may stay in the Schengen Area (within the dates of use of your visa).
If the consulate has issued you a “visa de circulation” (valid for use one year or more), the number marked will be “90 jours”, and you are entitled to stay a maximum of 90 days in each period of 6 months (180 days).

Various marks may be stamped here: type of visa, category of holder, reason for journey, etc.

Examples of most frequent marks:

TRANSIT AEROPORTUAIRE (airport transit) this visa does not allow you to leave the “international” or “duty free” zone of the airport
CIRCULATION this visa allows you to stay as often as you wish in the Schengen Area during its period of validity of use, on condition your stays do not total more than 90 days in each period of 6 months
Départements français d’Amérique this visa is valid for the territory specified
Guadeloupe this visa is valid for the territory specified
Guyane this visa is valid for the territory specified
Martinique this visa is valid for the territory specified
Mayotte this visa is valid for the territory specified
Nouvelle Calédonie this visa is valid for the territory specified
Polynésie française this visa is valid for the territory specified
Réunion this visa is valid for the territory specified
Saint-Pierre et Miquelon this visa is valid for the territory specified

CARTE DE SÉJOUR A SOLLICITER DES L’ARRIVEE (residence permit to be applied for on arrival): within two months of your arrival you must report to the prefectural authority of your place of residence to apply for a residence permit
APT A SOLLICITER DES L’ARRIVEE (Temporary work permit (TWP) to be applied for on arrival): you must apply for a temporary work permit on arrival in France, before starting any paid employment.
