Schengen visa [FAMILY] > to mary a French citizen

Description
This visa is required when the applicant has a plan to mary a French citizen. Evidence regarding the intended wedding (a "Certificat de publication des bans et de non opposition" has to be applied for at the celebrating french townhall - mairie) and information about the French citizen (identity, French nationality, residence) will be required.

Notice :



- This visa does not entitle you to apply for residency once in France (if you intend to settle in France after the wedding, you have to apply for a long stay visa. If you hold a short stay visa, you will have to come back to Australia / PNG in order to apply for a long stay visa as a spouse of a French citizen);

- This visa is not open to people who wish to sign a french Civil Partnership (PACS) in France. In this case, a short stay visa (general case) or long stay visa (visitor) should be applied for.

Schengen visa [FAMILY] > spouse of a French citizen

Description
This visa is a simplified process to apply for a Schengen visa as a spouse of a French citizen. Evidence regarding the wedding (a French marriage certificate "Copie Intégrale de l’Acte de Mariage") and information about the French citizen (identity, French nationality, residence) will be required.

Notice :



- This visa does not entitle you to apply for residency once in France (if you intend to settle in France after the wedding, you have to apply for a long stay visa. If you hold a short stay visa, you will have to come back to Australia / PNG in order to apply for a long stay visa as a spouse of a French citizen);

- This visa is not open to people who are in a french Civil Partnership (PACS) or any other civil union partnership as de facto. In this case, a short stay visa (general case) or long stay visa (visitor) should be applied for.

Schengen visa [FAMILY] > family member of a EU citizen

Description
This visa is a simplified process to apply for a Schengen visa as a spouse or a child (under 21 years old) of a EU citizen except French. Evidence regarding the wedding (a marriage certificate registered in a civil status - religious marriage are not recognized) or birth (birth certificates with the EU citizen as a parent) and information about the EU citizen himself (identity, nationality, residence) will be required.

- This visa does not entitle you to apply for residency once in France (if you intend to settle in France after the wedding, you have to apply for a long stay visa. If you hold a short stay visa, you will have to come back to Australia / PNG in order to apply for a long stay visa as a spouse of a French citizen);

- This visa is not open to people who are in a french Civil Partnership (PACS) or any other civil union partnership as de facto. In this case, a short stay visa (general case) or long stay visa (visitor) should be applied for.

Schengen visa [PROFESSIONNAL]

Description
This visa is required for applicant who will be gainfully employed during their short stay in France. They will have to provide a Temporary Work Permit when they apply for their visa.

How to obtain a Temporary work permit



- Temporary work permits are issued in France by the local Departments of Work and Employment (DIRECCTE).

- If your employer or his representative is in France : he will have to contact the nearest DIRECCTE in order to start the procedure on your behalf.

- If you are sent by your Australian employer in France : he will have to contact directly the relevant DIRECCTE on your behalf (please refer to the DIRECCTE website for contacts: http://direccte.gouv.fr/). Please note that these offices deal in French only.

- Once granted, the agreement will have to be forwarded directly to you, as you will not be allowed to enter the French Territory without it, nor be offered the possibility to work.


Notice :



- The temporary work permit requirement also applies if you intend to perform any artistic activity, modelling, farming, wine harvest, or any professional activity implying receiving a salary once in France, whereever is the employer.

- Domestic workers accompanying their employers to France must also obtain a temporary work permit from the relevant DIRECCTE.

- Please note that the Consulate general of France in Sydney can only process professionnal visa applications once the temporary work permit has been provided. The consulate does not deal with the temporary work permit which has to be applied for directly at the relevant DIRECCTE by your employer.

Schengen visa [RESEARCHER]

Description
This visa is required for researchers intending to enter research activities in France. They will need to obtain a "Convention d’Accueil" issued by the inviting Research Centre or University and have it approved by the local authority (Prefecture).

Notice :



- Holding a "Convention d’accueil " is a compulsory requirement, whether you are being paid or not.

- Australian passport holders do not require a visa to travel to France but for a short stay for research purposes, they will need to obtain a "Convention d’Accueil" as well, prior to their arrival in France. Failing to comply with this requirement may lead them to be refused entry upon arrival.

Schengen visa [RELIGIOUS ORDERS]

Description
This visa is required for members of Christian confessions only (Catholic or Protestant). Members of other religious confessions have to apply for a Schengen visa (general case) if relevant according to their nationality.

Notice :



- A letter of invitation ("formulaire unique") has to be obtain from the appointed representative of the religious order or institute. This document has to be duly completed and signed (with an official seal).

Schengen visa [TRAINING] > student or professionnal

Description
This visa is required for students or professionals who have to do a training period in France. They will need to obtain a "Convention de stage" from the inviting party prior to their arrival in France.

Notice :



- Holding a "Convention de stage" is a compulsory requirement, whether you are being paid or not.

- Australian passport holders do not require a visa to travel to France but for a short stay for training purposes, they will need to obtain a "Convention de stage" as well, prior to their arrival in France. Failing to comply with this requirement may lead them to be refused entry upon arrival.

Schengen visa [SPORTS]

Description
This visa is required for sportmen and sportwomen who will train or participate in sport activities / championship in France. Sport activities in France are strictly regulated and any sportman/sportwomen (amateur and professional alike) is required to obtain a work authorization prior to enter France, except for European Union passport holders.

Notice :



- This requirement is compulsory whether you are being paid or not; regardless of the purpose of your stay in France (competition, exhibition, training, tests, coaching, etc.) and the time you intend to stay there (short stay and long stay alike).

Description
This visa is required for minors going for a school trip to France. A letter from the school with details of the school trip will be compulsory as well as a parental authorization signed by both parents.

Schengen visa [GENERAL CASE]

Description
The "general case" category of the Schengen visa will apply if none of the previous specific categories fits best your situation.

Notice :



- Schengen visa holders may also visit Monaco, Andorra, St Marin, Vatican and Liechtenstein.

- If you are gainfully employed during your stay in France, you must hold a Temporary Work Permit (to be anticipated before your visa application). Click here to know more.

- Visa granted for overseas territories (New Caledonia, French Polynesia, la Réunion, Guyane, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Wallis et Futuna, Terres australes et antarctiques françaises) does not entitle his holder to visit the Schengen area nor MONACO. A separate Schengen visa is necessary.
