Climate – Agriculture – Mr. Laurent Fabius’s participation in the seminar on agriculture and climate in preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (Paris, February 20, 2015)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will today participate, together with Mr. Stéphane le Foll, in the seminar on agriculture and climate in preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. This seminar will bring together ministers, researchers, members of civil society, agricultural professionals, business representatives and representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

Agriculture and climate are inextricably linked. As confirmed once again by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, climate disruption poses a threat to agricultural production and therefore food security. Agricultural production, which is expected to increase, is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and must move toward more sustainable production and improved resource management.

The “solutions agenda,” which will accompany and reinforce the Paris agreement, must provide concrete solutions that are accessible to all and will combine the fight against climate disruption with sustainable development.
