Meeting between the President of the Republic and Mr. Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia [fr]
During the meeting between the leaders, the President thanked the Prime Minister for his participation in the 70th anniversary of D-Day commemorations. He also paid tribute to the Australian soldiers who fought on French soil in World War One.
The President commented on the dynamism of the bi-lateral relationship, two years after the signing of a strategic partnership between the two states. He expressed his desire to build on this partnership, particularly economic relations, the South Pacific and defence cooperation.
The President underlined the importance of the G20 summit to be held in Brisbane later this year to kick start global economic growth and to give impetus to global discussions on climate change ahead of the 2015 climate change conference in Paris.
He also thanked Mr. Abbott for the solidarity Australia has shown with regards to the French position on Ukraine as well as the Australian support for French action in Mali and the Central African Republic.
