Long stay visa [FAMILY] > spouse of a French citizen

Description
This visa is convenient for the spouse of a French citizen who wishes to settle in France for more than 90 days. Evidence regarding the wedding (a French marriage certificate "Copie Intégrale de l’Acte de Mariage") and information about the French citizen (identity, French nationality, residence) will be required.

Notice :



- This visa is not open to people who are in a french Civil Partnership (PACS) or any other civil union partnership as de facto. In this case, a long stay visa (visitor) should be applied for.

Long stay visa [FAMILY] > spouse of a EU citizen

Description
The spouse and children (under 21 years old] of a EU citizen (except French) who wish to settle in France for more than 90 days do not need a long stay visa under the european laws. They just need to enter France under the short stay visa regulation and they will be allowed once in France to start the process to apply for a "carte de séjour" directly at the Prefecture. Please note that some nationalities are under the visa waiver program for short stays as Australian citizen (these nationalities won’t need any visa to enter France and they will be able to apply for a residency permit in France). Please check here whether your nationality is exempted of short stay visa or not.

Description
This visa is convenient for applicant who wish to work in France for more than 90 days on a long stay visa.

Description
This visa is convenient for applicants who wish to create and run a business in France, whether it is a personal initiative or with a company.

Notice :



- The Consulate reserves the right to require additional supporting evidence. Filing the documents does not guarantee issuance of a visa. You should not make arrangements (selling property, leaving your job) or commit before your visa is granted.

Long stay visa [PROFESSIONAL] > professionals and independant workers

Description
Access to certain professions is not authorized unless you are a national from a European Union country (EU). These are lawyers at the Conseil d’Etat and the Cour de Cassation, lawyers at the court of appeal, commissaires priseurs (appraisers-auctioneers), clerks with the commerce tribunals, bailiffs, notaries, judicial administrators and insurance general agents, intellectual property counsels and registered auditors.

Others will need an authorization from the relevant professional body. These include architects, lawyers, accountants, land surveyors, doctors, dentists, midwives and veterinarians.

Others still must obtain a special authorization and are subject to certain restrictions. These include pharmacists and paramedical professionals.

Finally, some works are unregulated. They include, for example, artists who are not salaried, commercial brokers paid by commission, consultants, consulting engineers, experts, translators and interpreters, journalists, independent photographers.

Long stay visa [PROFESSIONAL] > sports

Description
Sportsmen and sportswomen who wish to settle in France for a long stay will be in either following situations:
- If you are employed (receive a salary), you have to apply as a "Salaried employee (OFII)";
- if you are not employed (do not receive a salary), you have to apply as a "visitor". In this case, the sport club will have to provide guarantees regarding your stay (financial support, accomodation, insurance, transport, etc...)

Long stay visa [PROFESSIONAL] > skills and talents card

Description
The "Compétences et talents" card can be applied for if you have a specific project that could make a significant or lasting contribution, through your skills or talents, to France’s economic development or to its intellectual, scientific, cultural, humanitarian or athletic prestige. It allows you to exercise the professional activity of your choice in connection with your project and is valid for three years, renewable.

Once applied for, a panel of consular and diplomatic authorities will meet to decide if your projects fits the requirements. A review of the file will be carried out according to the following criteria :

  • the project’s interest/quality
  • the applicant’s motivation/commitment
  • the applicant’s skills and qualifications
  • the means to carry out the project.
  • the existence of another type of visa more appropriate to the applicant’s situation



Who is eligible to apply ?

- University graduates proving major achievements

- High skilled qualified professionals

- Investors involved in a specific project with global impact

- Self-employed high skilled professionals

Notice :



- Family members (spouse and children below 21) will be issued a “Vie Privée et Familiale” card. This card will allow your spouse to legally work in France.

Long stay visa [PROFESSIONAL] > volunteer work

Description
This visa concerns people who want to involve themselves into a long stay visa (more than 90 days of continuous stay) to carry out social or humanitarian volunteering activities in Metropolitan France, the French Caribbean territories or Reunion Island. The process must be started through a French Foundation or Association recognised by the French authorities as being of public utility or registered charity.

Notice:
- This visa is not available for New Caledonia and French Pacific territories.

Description

Description
This visa is for non Australian students or professionals enrolled full time in a public or private educational establishment, approved by the French authorities, and endorsed by a French State Diploma. Studies must be related to the Diplomas obtained previously or your current professional occupation.

The following persons will therefore be considered as students in France:

  • Applicants pursuing academic studies at a University or High School (including within an exchange program between French and Australian universities) ;
  • Professionals on training to acquire or complete a professional qualification ;
  • French courses leading to a degree in the French language.



Applicants enrolled in a French language school or for a course of "civilisation française" at the Sorbonne or for theatre workshops or any other individual personal project, are not eligible for this category of visa and should apply for a long stay visa (visitor).

Notice :

- Application must be lodged in person at the French Consulate in Sydney;

- The validity of your visa will cover the duration of your course only with an extension of 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after.

- You must register at the OFII (unless you have been delivered a “long séjour temporaire” visa (for less than 6 months stay, mentioned on the sticker).

Description
The visa for language assistant is aimed to single persons and not for families. (Due to the cost of living in France, the monthly paid allowance will not be sufficient to support a family abroad).

Long stay visa [WORKING HOLIDAY] > only for [AUSTRALIAN]

Description
Australia has a reciprocal "Working Holiday" maker arrangement with France since 2003. This category allows young Australians to experience French culture and lifestyle, with an extended holiday and incidental employment for 12 months (non renewable).

Please note : It is not intended for any other purpose such as joining your partner/fiancé in France, studying, be an Au Pair or finding long term employment (refer to these specific visa categories).

Eligibility :
- Be 18 to 30 years old included at the time of application;
- Be outside of France when applying and when the visa is granted;
- Must not have benefited previously from this program;
- No accompanying dependant children;
- Proof of funds required: 5000 AUD;
- Hold 1 year compulsory insurance.

Notice :
- A Temporary Work permit will not be required at the time of visa application, however it must be obtained once in France prior to taking up any form of employment.
Please contact the nearest French Labour Department (DIRECCTE) www.direccte.gouv.fr. The work permit shall be granted for the
duration of the position.

Description
This visa is required for members of Christian confessions only (Catholic or Protestant). Members of other religious confessions have to apply for a long stay visa (visitor).

Description
The "visitor" category of the long stay visa will apply if none of the previous specific categories fits best your situation. This visa is allows applicants to take residency in France from 4 to 12 months to enjoy a French cultural experience.

Notice :



- This visa does not entitle you to work in France.

- Its validity covers France only and therefore does not allow you to travel around Europe as an extension of a Schengen visa beyond the 90 days limit.
