Letter of Intention for the French-Australian Linkage Programme signed by H.E Mr. Christophe Lecourtier, Ambassador of the Republic of France to Australia, Ms. Vicki Thomson, Chief Executive of the Group of Eight, and Mr. François Romanet, President of the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
On December 16 2015, the ceremony for the signing of the Letter of Intention for the French-Australian Linkage Programme took place at the Résidence de France in Canberra in the presence of many guests, including Ms. Belinda Robinson, Chief Executive, Universities Australia, and Professor Arun Sharma, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Queensland University of Technology.
The letter declares the intention of the participating parties to host a round table discussion of the French-Australian Linkage Programme next March. The objective of the round table will be to provide universities with opportunities to develop their skills at a global level; hands on experience in industry for the work-readiness of students; and easy access for French Companies to cutting edge research and innovation which can be applied directly to business. The Programme seeks to further strengthen the ties between France and Australia through international cooperation involving Australian universities and French companies.
According to His Excellency Mr Christophe Lecourtier, “Innovation is now at the heart of French and Australian policy. More than ever it will be "in the spotlight” in 2016. France and Australia have a lot of work to do together in this field.”
Ms. Thomson echoed these sentiments, stating that: “The Go8 is incredibly proud to see a further five-year relationship sealed this evening,” and that the long standing student and staff relationships with France “are mutually beneficial.”
The signing of the Letter of Intent demonstrates the collaborative commitment between the Embassy of France, the Group of Eight and the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
