France unites science and industry expertise in bilateral forum in Melbourne

The Ambassador of France to Australia welcomes delegates to the forum - JPEG The second forum of the French Researchers in Australia Network (FRAN) will be held on Thursday 5 December and Friday 6 December 2013 at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research Australian in Melbourne.

His Excellency Mr Stéphane Romatet, Ambassador of France to Australia, and Mr Bruno Gutton, Federal President of the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI) opened the forum.

Since its inauguration last year the network has continued to grow, providing more than 170 French researchers an opportunity to connect, collaborate and share their experiences of working in Australia.

Prof David Vaux, Deputy Director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute; His Excellency Mr Stéphane Romatet, Ambassador of France to Australia; Mr Bruno Gutton, National President to the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry - JPEG This year, with a focus on health and agribusiness, the forum brought together more than seventy French researchers working at universities, research institutes and the private sector across Australia, and provide a platform for scientists to present their latest research.

The forum also provided the opportunity for representatives from French organisations operating in Australia, including Clextral, PX Biosolutions, Pierre-Fabre, and Stallergenes, to highlight their experiences of collaborating with the Australian research and development sector. The forum also featured a presentation of the Connecting Australian European Science and Innovation Excellence (CAESIE) program created by the Delegation of the European Union in Australia and the Department of Industry.

The forum was co-organised by the Cultural Service of the Embassy of France and the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
