Australia and France: A new partnership for the 21st century

Last Tuesday 20 October His Excellency Christophe Lecourtier adressed the National Press Club in Canberra.

The Ambassador’s speech entitled ’Australia and France: A new partnership for the 21st century’ was followed by a question and answer session with leading Australian journalists.

The speech illustrated the main pillars of the strategic partnership between France and Australia and was an opportunity to revisit the President of the Republic François Hollande’s messages from his state visit in November last year.

The Ambassador focused on common values that France and Australia have shared since the Great War, as well as the multiple links which unite our two countries, be this in the fight against terrorism and in the face of other global challenges or our work together as neighbours in the South Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

The Ambassador’s speech was televised live by Sky News Australia and was widely reported in the Australian press.
